Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Haleakalā Sunrise Alerts (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Haleakalā reservation alert website and related SMS/email alerts.
1. Information we collect
- Contact data you provide: phone number, optional email address, optional trip end date, party size, preferred dates.
- SMS consent records: timestamp of consent, yes/no consent flag, page/source of opt-in, IP address, and related audit fields required for messaging compliance.
- Usage / technical data: basic server logs (IP, user agent, timestamps), form submissions, alert delivery status codes from providers.
- Communications: messages you send us (email or SMS HELP/STOP).
We do not require a government ID to join the free watch list. We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories beyond what you submit for alerts.
2. How we use information
- Provide cancellation / availability alerts you requested
- Send SMS or email service messages (confirmations, HELP, opt-out confirmation)
- Maintain opt-in proof and honor opt-outs
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service
- Prevent abuse and enforce Terms
- Comply with law and carrier / Twilio requirements
We do not sell your phone number. We do not use personal information to place park reservations for you.
3. How we share information
We share data with processors only as needed to run the service, for example:
- Messaging providers (e.g. Twilio) to deliver SMS
- Email providers (if you opt into email) such as transactional email vendors
- Hosting / infrastructure (site host, application host, database)
- Payment processors if you buy a paid plan later
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger/acquisition with notice where appropriate. We do not share mobile opt-in data with third parties for their own marketing.
4. SMS / mobile information
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties for marketing/promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties except our messaging providers functioning as our processors to deliver messages, or as required by law.

5. Cookies & analytics
The marketing site is designed to be lightweight. We may use essential cookies or local storage for basic function. If we add analytics later, we will update this policy and prefer privacy-respecting tools.
6. Retention
We keep watcher and consent records while your watch is active and for a reasonable period after opt-out or inactivity for compliance, dispute, and abuse-prevention purposes (typically up to 2–3 years for SMS consent logs unless a longer period is required). Alert logs may be retained in aggregated or limited form for reliability metrics.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (HTTPS, access controls, secret storage). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Children’s privacy
The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
9. Your choices
- Reply STOP to end SMS
- Request deletion or correction of your watcher record by contacting us
- Use an optional trip end date so watching sunsets automatically when your window ends
California and other privacy-law residents may have additional rights to know, delete, or correct personal information. Contact us to exercise them. We will not discriminate for exercising privacy rights.
10. International users
We primarily target U.S. visitors. If you access the service from elsewhere, you understand information may be processed in the United States.
11. Changes
We may update this policy by posting a new version with a revised date. Material SMS-related changes will be reflected on the site; continued enrollment means acceptance where permitted by law.
